We will miss you Memphis
It
is with great sadness that we heard of the death of
young Memphis Powell from Clevedon near Bristol, after struggling for nearly
two years with a rare form of childhood leukaemia.
Memphis inspired many to join the bone marrow
register. He was a leading face in the Anthony
Nolan Trust's campaign to recruit more young men as
potential bone marrow donors.
Unfortunately Memphis had a rare tissue type and despite a worldwide
search a matching donor could not be found for him.
Finally his father Aaron donated his own bone marrow
stem cells last September in a desperate bid to save
his son.
Memphis will be missed by many and our thoughts at
this time are with his family and friends,
especially mum and dad Laura and Aaron and baby
brother Lincoln.
Details of the original appeal
for Memphis appear below:
Dad to donate to try
to save Memphis
After
a long and unsuccessful search for a matching donor,
Aaron Powell will donate his own stem cells in the
hope of saving his son's life. The transplant
is scheduled to take place on September 6th.

An urgent search for
a donor for Memphis
Little
Memphis from Clevedon near Bristol has juvenile
myelomonocytic leukaemia (JMML). This is a
very rare form of the illness that affects only
about one per cent of those with the cancer.
The only possible cure for his condition is a bone
marrow transplant. But despite regular
searches on the worldwide Bone Marrow Register a
matching donor still cannot be found.
Memphis was born on 4th
August 2004 but was diagnosed with JMML in March of
2005. Since then he has been receiving
treatment at Bristol Children's Hospital.
Loving parents Laura and
Aaron have organised several registration clinics
and are appealing for people to come forward to join
the Bone Marrow Register. Laura said "Since we
have started looking for donors lots of people have
come forward but so far we have not found a match."
