help little Damario
Damario
was born on December 23, 2006.
He was diagnosed at Great Ormond Street Hospital with haemophagocytic
lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) on January 25.
He has been having medical treatments including chemotherapy, but the
only way of curing his illness is a bone-marrow transplant.
Also, Damario is neutropenic due to the chemotherapy - this means that
he has no immune system and is very prone to infections which cause
fatal illnesses. He is constantly in and out of hospital, often spending
weeks at a time there.
Damario's parents,
Floretta and Augustine, struggle to find the balance between
acknowledging the reality of his condition and the fact that the ethnic
minorities are under-represented in the bone-marrow bank - this means
that there is no telling when a suitable bone-marrow match will be
found.
The frustrations, fear and lifestyle changes that follow Damario's
diagnosis has been almost overpowering for the Thomas family, but they
remain strong and determined to fight this.
They are pleading to all black and ethnic minority people in the UK to
save Damario and others in a similar plight.

All
we are asking is for people to get tested and see
if they can help. Even if they are not a match for
Damario they may be able to help somebody else in
need.
Maybe YOU could be that match!
YOU
can make this happen! YOU can make a
difference! PLEASE don't leave it too late!
